Guimarasnons and visitors gathered in front of the Provincial Capitol to witness the opening of the 2024 Manggahan Festival on May 3.

The festival aims to attract local and foreign visitors to experience the different ways Guimarasnons offer their services, tourist destinations, and the sweetness of Guimaras mangoes.

The festivities begin with the “Imbukada,” which signals the start of the festival through festive drum beats, followed by a grand caravan of vehicles coming from the five municipalities of Guimaras. National government agencies such as the Department of Tourism (DOT), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and the Philippine National Police, as well as local government officials, also joined the parade.

“As we open our doors, we let the world experience what lies within this paradise. This is our chance to showcase the splendor and potential of Guimaras,” said Congresswoman Ma. Lucille Nava.

“We always have something new to offer and continuously elevate a step higher each year. In the coming days of the month-long celebration, people will feast on the artistic extravaganza of beauty, talents, and flavors and unravel the diverse culinary options of the sweetest mango, as well as the bounty of the seas through the ‘culinarian’ and ‘panabor sa isla.”

Jonifer B. Frades, HVCDP Regional Coordinator of the Department of Agriculture, Western Visayas (DA-WV), conveyed the message of DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., saying that mango is a valuable commodity that the DA, through the HVCDP, aims for a sustainable and resilient Philippine mango industry.

Governor JC Rahman A. Nava of Guimaras declared that the 2024 Manggahan Festival has added sweetness, saying, “Amo ini ang mas matam-is kag mas manamit nga pag selebrar sang Manggahan Festival.”

The mango eat-all-you-can event will be held in the provincial capitol grounds on May 4-5, 10-12, and 17-22. For only P100.00, local and foreign tourists can enjoy 30 minutes of eating unlimited mangoes.

Various vegetables, fruits, and processed mango products are available at the Manggahan Agri-Eco Fair. The Miss Guimaras pageant will also be the highlight of the festival, which showcases the beauty, culture, and tradition of the people of Guimaras. As Manggahan 2024 brings out the best of the best, it is highly recommended for everyone to witness and experience the charm of Guimaras Island.### Texts & Photos by JNCapaciete/DA-RAFIS 6
