The acquisition of Mobile Veterinary and Molecular Laboratory of the Department of Agriculture Western Visayas strengthened the capability of providing immediate and accurate diagnostic services closer among livestock and poultry raisers in the region.
Manned by the Regional Animal Diagnostic and Disease Laboratory personnel, the mobile laboratory will also enhance the regional animal health and disease control, intensify collection and ensure proper handling of specimen with partner local government units. This will be a game changer in the agricultural perspective as it can be a means of easy access for farmers to reach out their concerns without having to travel as much, since the vehicle can reach certain areas.
The mobile vehicle is capable to diagnose emerging animal infections such as Nipah Virus, Japanese Encephalitis, Tuberculosis, Swine Flu and Monkey Pox. Real Time Polymerase Chain reaction, or RT-PCR tests in the molecular laboratory will be considered as a major project as an addition.
Zarlina B. Cuello, Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations, highlighted the importance of the RADDL-MVML to further safeguard animal health, mitigate infectious diseases and foster a sustainable practices among its stakeholders.###(VNQuimpo and AAcanto/DA-RAFIS 6)
