DA-WV empowers Capiz farmers at 11th Farmers’ Field Day

Around 300 farmers and representatives of different LGUs in the province of Capiz attended 11th Farmers’ Field Day of Capiz Research Outreach Station, October 6, 2023. This aims to transform agricultural practices and boosting the income of local food producers.

Capiz ROS Chief Benito Labindao explained the objective of the activity, which is to disseminate science-based farming technologies and innovations to enhance farmers’ productivity.

“Magahatag kami sa inyo sang mga bag-o nga teknolohiya sa pagpanguma kag ideya para may ara kamo alternative source of income,” the Center Chief emphasized.

Meanwhile, DA-WV Research OIC-Division Chief Luisa Fulgeras expounded the programs and services offered by the Research Division, informing the attendees about the various resources and support available to farmers, including training, technical assistance, and access to technologies and resources aimed at improving agricultural practices and increasing income.

Nora T. Garpa, Science Research Specialist II, highlighted the potential of glutinous corn flour and kernels as key ingredients for income-generating food products during a demonstration of corn ice cream and polvoron making for the farmer-participants.

To address the challenges faced by farmers, the event also equipped them with program updates and management strategies for addressing crop pests and diseases, raising awareness about soil health, and improving vegetable cultivation practices.

In addition, farmers received assorted planting materials and various information, education, and communication (IEC) materials from DA-WV, further enhancing their agricultural knowledge and resources. ### Texts and Photos by Ann Marie S. Tabura/DA-RAFIS 6
