DA WV – Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division conducted a Seminar on the Establishment of Agri-Tourism and Learning Sites

The Department of Agriculture Western Visayas – Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division conducted a Seminar on the Establishment of Agri-Tourism and Learning Sites on April 30, 2025, in Mandurriao, Iloilo City. The seminar aims to equip farmers, agri-entrepreneurs, and stakeholders with the information and resources needed to turn their farms into agri-tourism and learning areas. May Ann B. Grajo, OIC-Chief of AMAD stressed the critical role in promoting agricultural education.

Grajo highlighted the importance of having learning sites throughout communities. It is also central to empowering farmers through knowledge and skills. She emphasized that such endeavors not only enhance agricultural practices but also address increasing local community needs. Lyn G. Bantigue, Agriculturist II and LSA Alternate Focal Person of ATI Western Visayas talked about the procedures on how to convert a farm into an ATI Learning Site for Agriculture, including the requirements, steps, and advantages of becoming an accredited learning site. Adonis L. Antay, Instructor III of Leon Ganzon Polytechnic College, Balasan, Iloilo presented a step-by-step guide on how to put up a TESDA Farm School, touching on the standards, accreditation process, and available opportunities for individuals undertaking agri-based education and training.

Among the highlights of the activity is the sharing of success stories of farmers who were able to put up LSAs and TESDA farm school. Princess Diane Calanza, of Chandy’s Integrated Farm in Panitan, Capiz and Young Farmers Challenge awardee, talked about her inpiring experience. Her farm has since become a TESDA-accredited school where she provides free training to youth and empowering women to seize opportunities in agriculture.

Meanwhile, Manilyn Arceñas of Spoiledsaamo Integrated Farm in Cuartero, Capiz reminisced about returning to farming and the struggles in setting up a Learning Site for Agriculture (LSA). She attributed this to AMAD, especially Ms. Lyn Bantigue of ATI, for their assistance and encouraged other farmers to follow suit in developing LSAs. In addition, Kristoffer Leo M. Valete of the Department of Tourism gave tips on how to start agri-tourism and talked about the Farm Tourism Development Act and how it applies to the industry. Market Specialist I of APS Benjie A. Panes presented the AMAD Programs and Services, while Agriculturist I of AISS Mae Paranpan gave an introduction to the FFEDIS program. This initiative supports the region’s ongoing efforts to advance sustainable agriculture, capacity building, and rural development through farm-based learning and agritourism.
