DA Western Visayas lauds Sibalom stakeholders in boosting livestock sector in Antique

More than 50 livestock farmers gathered to attend the Sibalom Livestock and Poultry Raisers Association Incorporated (SILPRA Inc.) General Assembly Meeting held in Sibalom, Antique on March 27, 2025, to discuss their accomplishments for 2024, proposed activities and projects for 2025, financial reports, and other matters concerning their association.
Two farmer associations were awarded of goat dispersal project which could upgrade and increase goat population in the municipality.
Municipal Agriculturist of Sibalom, Albert Estoya, commended the farmer-embers present for their dedication and commitment which are instrumental on the progress of their group.
He emphasized that several programs from production, capability building, leadership and marketing were established to support significant number of farmer-members.
Estoya also added that ever since they received interventions from the Department of Agriculture (DA) Western Visayas, their association has steadily expanded and improved.
DA-WV OIC Regional Technical Director for Operations Maria Teresa T. Solis said that the DA Western Visayas and the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) have indeed provided assistance to SILPRA. She thanked the efforts of both Peña and Estoya, as well as all the members of SILPRA for expanding the association and utilizing each project they received to its full potential.
She underscored that development relies on the people and not on the government, “Ang makabulig sa aton, kita gid- dapat kita magpanikasog para sa aton development.”
Solis acknowledged Sibalom, Antique as one of the most progressive municipalities in Region 6 due to the remarkable operation of its livestock auction market. She also said that the region has the highest number of livestock auction markets throughout the Philippines, but such markets will be useless if there is no livestock to sell.
Thus, she expressed her gratitude towards SILPRA for providing the resources to keep the region’s livestock market thriving.
In addition to the meeting, the Cabaiuan Farmers Association and Elpra Farmers Association were given certificates of recognition as recipients of the goat dispersal project.
