DA-HVCDP turns over a Php 2 million modernized greenhouse in Tubungan

The Department of Agriculture High Value Crops Development Program (DA-HVCDP) turned over a Php 2 million modernized greenhouse to Tabat Farmers’ Association on May 10, 2024, ushering in a new era of innovation and sustainability for the farming landscape of Tabat, Tubungan, Iloilo.

The modern greenhouse stands as a silver lining, featuring cutting-edge technology including the maxivent and an automated drip irrigation soilless system. This sophisticated infrastructure promises to revolutionize farming practices, optimizing yield, and minimizing resource consumption.

The inauguration ceremony witnessed a gathering of honored guests, including farmer leaders, association officers, barangay council members, representatives from the Local Government Unit (LGU), DA Regional field office employees, and specialists Mr. Jinsun Na and Mr. Sungmin Quim from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

Punong Barangay Hon. Salvador Talento, Jr., radiating pride and gratitude, welcomed the attendees and lauded the DA for empowering the farmers of Tabat with this transformative initiative. Hon. Talento, embodying the spirit of grassroots involvement, shared his personal commitment by participating in training sessions at the greenhouse.

Municipal Agriculturist Marjorie Tacardon expressed profound appreciation for the collaboration with KOICA specialists, emphasizing the invaluable knowledge transfer facilitated by their presence. Tacardon highlighted Tubungan’s unwavering dedication to implementing DA projects and stressed the significance of proper utilization and maintenance of the greenhouse for the community’s benefit.

Mr. Jonifer Frades, HVCDP Regional Focal Person, extended his gratitude to KOICA for their significant role in enhancing agricultural infrastructure in Tubungan. Frades emphasized the importance of utilizing post-harvest facilities to ensure the delivery of high-quality produce to institutional buyers, thus fortifying the economic sustainability of local farmers.

Mayor Roquito Tacsagon echoed sentiments of gratitude towards the DA and emphasized the importance of sustainability in agricultural projects. For Mayor Tacsagon, the true measure of success lies not only in the funds allocated but in the lasting impact these initiatives to the livelihoods of farmers.
