DA-AMIA CIS Workshop empowers AEWs to create climate-resilient farmers

The Department of Agriculture conducted a training and workshop entitled “Climate Information System,” organized by the Adaptation and Mitigation Initiative in Agriculture (AMIA). This three-day trainig, held at the MO2 Westown Hotel from July 29 to 31, aimed to educate Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) with the knowledge and skills to utilize modern technology for monitoring climatic hazards to help local farmers. Forty-eight participants from the provinces of Negros Occidental, Antique, and Capiz were selected to participate in the said training.

Ms. Chrystal Jane Almendralejo said that the training focused on practical workshop activities designed to prepare participants for climate challenges and to mitigate damages and losses. Provincial AMIA Focal of Antique, Christian Dubria, stated that the training is beneficial for disseminating climate information accurately and efficiently to local farmers. He highlighted the value of Climate Information System (CIS), emphasizing its ability to assist agricultural extension workers in supporting farmers.

  

The goal is to enhance their ability to relay critical information to farmers, ultimately helping to increase their incomes and ensuring the sustainability of agricultural initiatives in Region 6.    “We optimize to build a climate-resilient agri-fisheries communities to ensure sustainable livelihoods, and enterprises,”  said DA-AMIA coordinator and CIS Focal, Chrystal Jane Almendralejo, emphasizing the importance of building climate-resilient farmers.###text by HAliboso/photos by GJGabasa
