The Department of Agriculture Community-Based Mushroom Production Project (CBMPP) Team Project MUSHIE, has been recognized as one of the 2024 regional winners of the Civil Service Commission’s (CSC) prestigious Pagasa Award. The award was presented during the Pasidungog 2024 celebration, part of the CSC’s 124th-anniversary festivities, held on September 17, 2024, in Iloilo City.
Team Project MUSHIE, composed of Science Research Specialist II Francis G. Capino, Senior Science Research Specialist Susana D. Jeroso, and Market Specialist III Leah Gay V. Veloso, received the honor for their exemplary work in promoting community-based enterprise development, on-station production, and research activities in mushroom farming across Western Visayas. Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations, Zarlina B. Cuello, who nominated the team, represented the DA-Western Visayas during the ceremony.
The Pagasa Award, part of the CSC’s Honor Awards Program, recognizes individuals or groups of up to five members for exceptional contributions benefiting multiple government agencies or sectors.
During the awarding ceremony, CSC Assistant Commissioner Nerissa Canguilan praised the transformative nature of public service and the significance of the Pasidungog celebration. “It is a privilege to join you in this momentous celebration of Pasidungog 2024, where we honor the finest civil servants from the region. As we recognize the regional leaders and semifinalists of the 2024 Search for Outstanding Government Workers, we also acknowledge the profound transformation happening in public service. This year’s celebration of the Philippine Civil Service Anniversary reminds us that public service is not in vain. As we navigate global challenges like pandemics, technological disruptions, and climate change, we must embrace innovation, agility, and resilience in our work to meet the evolving needs of our nation,” Canguilan stated.
The DA’s CBMPP, through the dedication of Francis, Susana, and Leah, has provided training to 4,526 individuals, with 250 of them becoming entrepreneurs in mushroom farming. These efforts have led to the creation of 12 community-based enterprises and the establishment of a federated mushroom group. The project is not only helping farmers in Panay, Guimaras, and Negros to improve their income but is also promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
“In Region 6, we are a region of exemplars. This year’s CSC RO6 family continues its efforts to recognize and celebrate excellence in public service, serving as an inspiration to all government workers. This is a strong testament to the growing culture of dedication and commitment to serving the public in Region 6. To all honorees, may your drive and passion continue to inspire others in the public service,” said CSC Regional Director Nelson Sarmiento during his speech.
In 2023, the CSC also honored Relvin Paragua, Agriculturist II, as one of the Presidential Awardees for the Pagasa Award, and Andrew Palomar, Agriculturist II, as a National Semi-Finalist for the Dangal ng Bayan Award. These recognitions highlight the dedication and outstanding performance of DA-WV employees. ###(DA-RAFIS6)
