Senior High School students from four municipalities in Capiz participated in the Agriculture and Fisheries Scholarship Information Caravan conducted by the Department of Agriculture (DA) Western Visayas, in collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Capiz in Roxas City.

Themed “Kabataan sa Agrikultura Para sa Bayang Masagana,” the caravan encourages Senior High School students to explore and pursue careers in Agriculture, Fisheries, Agricultural Engineering, Veterinary Medicine, and other fields.

Agricultural Training Institute Regional Training Center 6 Scholarship Coordinator Jerick Navarro, Sugar Regulatory Administration Supervising Agriculturist Jeno Bechayda, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Aquaculturists Alvin Beltran and Peter Tumlos, Philippine Coconut Authority Senior Agriculturist Engr. Florence Angela Yamson, and Land Bank of the Philippines Agrarian Support and Administrative Unit Head Engr. James Villareal outlined their program offers and requirements, highlighting the vast potential for career growth and entrepreneurial success in the agri-fishery sectors.

Over 80 Grade 11 students from Jose Diva Avelino Jr. National High School in Pontevedra, Mianay National High School in Sigma, Marciano M. Patricio National High School in Pilar, Roxas Farm School in Tapaz, and Malonoy National High School in Dao took part in the caravan, which seeks to increase enrollment in agri-fishery-related courses starting in the academic year 2025-2026.

DepEd Capiz Education Program Supervisor Dr. Rolando Jamora emphasized the importance of providing students with exposure to various agricultural opportunities and scholarships. “By empowering agriculture-minded learners with comprehensive information on agri-fishery scholarships, students are better equipped to make informed decisions regarding their future academic pursuits, employment, and entrepreneurial undertakings.”

DA Western Visayas and DepEd Capiz have been collaborating to address the pressing need to eradicate poverty and hunger through various initiatives such as Gulayan sa Paaralan, Home Gardening Programs, and curriculum enhancements in both Junior and Senior High Schools, which provide students with practical skills and training relevant to various agricultural fields.### Texts by SMHToreno & Photos by CFLauresta & JVDeGuzman/DA-RAFIS 6
