In an effort to enhance the financial literacy and decision-making capabilities of local farmers, the Department of Agriculture (DA) in Western Visayas recently conducted a comprehensive Financial Management Workshop designed for 45 members of farmers’ associations in the Province of Capiz.
The primary objective of this workshop was to equip participants with essential knowledge and skills required for the effective management of both personal and organizational finances. The program encompassed interactive discussions focused on critical themes such as budgeting, saving, and strategic financial planning, all specifically tailored to address the distinctive challenges and opportunities within the agricultural sector.
A salient feature of the workshop was the incorporation of the “Kita Mo!” game, a financial simulation activity aimed at immersing participants in various real-life scenarios. Through this participatory tool, participants were presented with challenges and opportunities that necessitated the application of informed financial decision-making. The activity promoted collaboration, strategic analysis, and reflective thinking regarding the ramifications of economic choices, all within a structured and educational environment.
Fritz Joy Bretaña, a market specialist from the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD), articulated that the department’s initiative to impart fundamental financial principles through experiential learning seeks to empower farmers to manage their income with efficacy, engage in investment practices, and sustain the growth of their small and medium-sized agricultural enterprises.###Vivien Nimue Q.
