Western Visayas played host to a national workshop on the Operational Management and Information System (O-MIS) from March 10 to 14, 2025, gathering representatives from 15 regional offices of the Department of Agriculture (DA) to discuss encoding and accomplishments related to the National Corn Program. The event provided a platform to enhance data management and monitoring within the program, which aims to transform farmers engaged in corn, cassava, soybean, and sorghum production through improved technological support and services.
The workshop was attended by DA-attached agencies, including the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM), Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR), Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI), and the Office of the Secretary (OSEC). Participants were warmly welcomed by Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations for Negros Island Region, Rey Embajador. The event highlighted the significance of a structured and standardized approach to managing the physical and financial targets of the department’s programs.
During the sessions, program performance was reviewed, and an overview of the DA’s four-year plan, policy programs, and system updates was provided. Monitoring and Evaluation (MED) representatives guided participants through encoding and reporting accomplishments using the O-MIS platform. The web-based system enables the DA Regional Offices and attached agencies to input and consolidate data, track obligations, and disbursements, and generate real-time customized reports for better monitoring and evaluation.
The workshop emphasized the importance of engaging stakeholders in hands-on activities to ensure clear objectives and thorough planning for the National Corn Program. With improved data collation and report generation, O-MIS is expected to strengthen agricultural initiatives, streamline processes, and promote efficiency in program implementation across the country.###
