In a bid to strengthen and promote youth engagement in agriculture, the Department of Agriculture (DA) Western Visayas’ Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Information Section organized a Campus-Based Agricultural Reporters’ Training for Bachelor of Science in Agriculture students of West Visayas State University College of Agriculture and Forestry (WVSU-CAF) on February 27, 2025, in Lambunao, Iloilo.

Eleven student journalists from Ang Amihan, the official school publication of WVSU-CAF, underwent capacity enhancement training on TeleRadyo broadcasting and scriptwriting, news writing, social media content creation, and photojournalism. This training prepares students for the collaborative undertaking between the school and DA-WV this year- the Campus-Based Agricultural Reporters’ Project.

DA Western Visayas will tap agriculture students from various state universities and colleges in the region to intensify the promotion and dissemination of agri-fishery information, technologies, research breakthroughs, and innovations through the department’s quad media platforms and media partners.

Prof. Mairaz Arroyo, Ang Amihan’s adviser, thanked the Da Western Visayas for initiating the partnership and reaching out for new opportunities to expand the capabilities of the student journalists to highlight contents about agriculture.

“With teamwork and dedication, the collaboration between Ang Amihan and DA-RAFIS will lead to greater achievements and skill development,” Arroyo said.

Consequently, to officially launch and ensure the project’s long-term sustainability, DA Western Visayas and WVSU will draft and sign a Memorandum of Agreement.

The campus-based agri-reporters’ training was also graced by WVSU-CAF Campus Administrator Dr. Joel Araquil and College of Agriculture Director Dr. Anthony Leal.###
