DA-WV turns over mushroom facility to boost livelihood of Bingawan farmers

The Hataw Bingawan AMIA Village Farmers Association officially received a newly established mushroom facility during a turnover and blessing ceremony held on January 22, 2025, in Brgy. Alabidhan in Bingawan, Iloilo.

Alabidan Punong Barangay John Arnel Ceballos led the event, emphasized the project’s significance in uplifting the farming community. “This facility represents more than just a structure— it is a symbol of hope and progress for our farmers. Thank you for empowering our community,” he expressed.

The facility is expected to enhance mushroom production and provide sustainable livelihood opportunities for local farmers. Community leaders, local officials, and representatives from agricultural organizations attended the event, underscoring the importance of modern initiatives in improving rural productivity.

Bingawan Sangguniang Bayan (SB) Member and Committee on Agriculture representative Jofe Celeste lauded the DA for its commitment to addressing farmers’ needs. “From cultivation to cooking, the Department of Agriculture ensures that no farmer is left behind,” SB member Celeste noted.

Celeste also underscored the significance of recognizing farmers’ contributions, urging everyone to support them. “Every meal we enjoy is the result of their hard work. Let’s appreciate and celebrate their efforts,” he added.

DA-WV AMIA Project Leader Carmelita Fantilanan, shared her inspiring journey in mushroom farming, which began five years ago through the Gender and Development (GAD) program of the DA. “This project started with a vision to empower women farmers. Today, it has grown into a source of pride and joy for our community,” she said.

Fantilanan also acknowledged the challenges in meeting the high demand for mushrooms but remained optimistic. “This project’s success drives us to dream bigger. We look forward to expanding our facilities and generating more opportunities for our farmers,” she affirmed. The turnover of the mushroom facility marked a milestone for Bingawan’s agricultural sector. “This initiative reminds us that through collaboration and innovation, we can transform lives and build a brighter future for our farmers,” Ceballos concluded.  ### Photos by CFLauresta/DA-RAFIS 6
