100 farmers complete high-quality inbred rice production training

100 farmers completed the Farmers Field School (FFS) on the production of high-quality inbred rice, seeds certification and farm mechanization in Barbaza, Antique.
The 17-weeks intensified FFS facilitated by agricultural extension workers of LGU Barbaza in collaboration with Payaw Diversified farm school in Hamtic, Antique focus on the palay check system technology and hands-on operation of farm mechanization among the enrollees.
The FFS also serve as a venue for the farmers to exchange ideas and experiences thereby empowering them to make informed decisions and improving their livelihood as well.
The participants were grateful to the Department of Agriculture (DA) Western Visayas, LGUs, as well as TESDA for the opportunity in helping them through continued education, assuring that what they have learned during the FFS will be shared to their fellow farmers.
DA-WV Information Chief Officer James Earl Ogatis acknowledged the efforts of both the participants and the LGU for finishing the programs. He also expressed his appreciation for the help and commitment of the agricultural technicians who assisted the farmers during the enrollment and evaluation, pointing out the program’s success depended on a dedication to empower farmers and strong local support.
The first batch of graduates were given pruning saws, shovels, and T-shirt in addition to their certificates of completion.
