Localized F2C2 cluster summit unites Patnongon farmers to strengthen productivity through unity

Local farmers and fishers in Patnongon, Antique, came together at the recently held Municipal Farm and Fisheries Clustering and Consolidation (F2C2) Cluster Summit on October 17-18, 2024, to foster collaboration and enhance agricultural productivity. The summit, themed “Mula sa kanya-kanya, patungo sa sama-sama,” focused on the importance of collective action and resource sharing among the community.
On behalf of Patnongon Mayor Johnny Flores Bacongallo, Vice Mayor Tomas Bacaoco in his address underscored the importance of the F2C2 program in enhancing the competitiveness of local farmers and fisherfolk. He emphasized the critical role of livestock in boosting agricultural productivity and reaffirmed the local government’s dedication to supporting initiatives that benefit the entire agricultural community.
“The F2C2 program is highly relevant and instrumental for our agricultural sector as it introduces innovative strategies and modern practices to adapt to changing times. It significantly aids our farmers and fisherfolk by providing various approaches to ensure their produce reaches a broader and more competitive market,” stated Mayor Bacongallo, as conveyed by Vice Mayor Bacaoco.
DA-WV Agricultural Program Coordinating Officer (APCO) for Antique Sonie Guanco emphasized the significance of farmer associations’ cooperation in this groundbreaking initiative for the province. He outlined that the Cluster Development Plan is a vital tool for managing government projects and encouraged farmers, particularly those who have yet to receive support, to engage actively in their associations. Guanco expressed determination about the upcoming support for Patnongon, noting that it has the highest number of cluster areas in Antique.
“This activity is a first for Antique, and we hope for your full cooperation, especially from the associations, as it is designed to benefit you,” APCO Guanco expressed.
Meanwhile, Algileen Villaflor, representing Engr. Ricardo M. Oñate, National Director of the F2C2 Program, emphasized efforts to connect farmers and fisherfolk directly with consumers. She highlighted directives from DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. and President Ferdinand Marcos to boost agricultural production, particularly in rice supply, to strengthen the sector. Villaflor noted plans to expand clustering and resource distribution among these groups.
Villaflor expressed gratitude to Region VI for its support of farmers, stating, “We hope for a stronger connection among our farmers in the region and with other partners, supported by this cluster summit.” She emphasized the significance of collaboration and resource sharing in achieving agricultural success.
The summit aimed to unite farmers and fisherfolk, enabling them to share best practices and maximize government support. Attendees engaged in discussions about the progress of F2C2 projects, showcased local agricultural products, and explored strategies to overcome challenges faced in farming and fishing.
Ms. Everly Marquez from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist shared updates on the F2C2 clusters in Patnongon, while Cluster Development Manager from ADB-Primex Niel L. Papas, provided insights into the achievements and ongoing developments of the F2C2 program. This activity highlighted the importance of collaboration among farmers and fisherfolk as well as to establish a foundation for future initiatives aimed at enhancing productivity and improving livelihoods in Patnongon.
The event was spearheaded by the Municipal Agriculture Office, led by Municipal Agriculturist Bernardita Salvador, and co-facilitated by the DA-WV F2C2 Program, represented by Regional F2C2 Focal Person Andrew Palomar and F2C2 EMDU Head Clark Melendres, in cooperation with the KAMAPAT Agriculture Cooperative, headed by President Henry Michael Doliguez. The summit was further enhanced by the presence of distinguished guests including Wilfredo Labido from F2C2 Central Office, Norbell Villaflor of ATI-RTC VI, Eduardo Tresico, owner of Dreamers Valley; PCIC Provincial Head Clogene Gallego; DA-WV PMED Chief and CSO Accreditation Secretariat Atty.
