On September 25, 2024, the Yellow Corn Model Farm Field Day took place in Brgy. Cabagohan, Batad, Iloilo, drawing 50 farmers from Batad, San Dionisio, and Estancia, Iloilo.

The event showcased biofertilizers in corn farming and reinforced government support for local agriculture. SB Emmanuel Pacardo, representing Mayor Alarcon, emphasized the government’s commitment to the farmers, highlighting the importance of self-reliance in the face of government aid programs.

He encouraged farmers to continue diversifying thier crops to prevent soil erosion and flooding, especially during the rainy season.

Hon. Plantig further stressed the significance of corn as the second-largest product of Batad, following rice, and praised the support from the Department of Agriculture (DA) for their vital projects. He noted that while farmers face challenges such as deforestation and soil erosion, solutions like contour farming have helped improve their resilience.

The event underscored the ongoing efforts of the local and provincial governments, along with the DA, in providing resources and training to empower farmers in Batad, ensuring food security and sustainable agriculture for the community. The field day was graced by Teodora A. Dela Cruz, Brgy. Captain of Cabagohan; Mr. Rey G. Genine, Agriculturist II; Jonifer C. Amantillo, Committee on Agriculture; and Nestor D.
