Young artist from the Province of Aklan will represent Western Visayas in the upcoming National On the Spot Poster Making Contest as part of the World Food Day (WFD) Celebration in October after winning first place in the regional level competition organized by the Department of Agriculture (DA) on September 20 at Robinsons Place, Iloilo City.

Nathalie I. Quimora, a sixth-grade pupil from New Washington Elementary School in Aklan, bested 14 other contestants from four provinces in depicting the WFD theme this year: “Right to Foods for a Better Life and Better Future.”

Cathalina Cione M. Batas of Malinao Elementary School from Aklan and Aeliah Theresse Saavedra of Doanne Brilliant Child Learning Haven Inc., Santa Barbara, Iloilo, placed second and third, respectively.

The top three winners received recognition plaques and cash prizes, while runners-up were granted certificates and consolation prizes.

Judges composed of Department of Education (DepEd) Region 6 Field Technical Assistance Division Chief Jude Thaddeus Iledan, Fort San Pedro National High School Master Teacher Joemel Mirabuena, and resident artists of DA Western Visayas Victorico Nabor, Engr. Kevin Fernandez and Edgardo Gonzales Jr. assessed the poster entries based on set criteria encompassing originality (30%), creativity (30%), visual impact (20%), and relevance to the theme (20%).

DA Western Visayas’ Regional Information Officer James Earl Ogatis said the department partners with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in the annual WFD celebration with on-the-spot poster making as one of the event highlights.

“The national-level competition is scheduled for October 15 in Makati City, with pupils from grades 5 and 6 from public and DepEd-accredited private schools from various regions to compete,” he added.###Texts by SMHToreno and Photos by: ELGregorio & KDCCaldina/DA-RAFIS 6
