WV unveils 8 prime commodities for PRDP Scale-Up

The Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) Scale-Up Regional Project Coordination Office 6 has identified its eight priority commodities in Western Visayas listed under the PRDP Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Investment Portfolio (RAFIP) during the I-PLAN Scale-Up Guidelines and RAFIP Rollout on January 22, 2026.
Composing the approved RPCO6 RAFIP are rice, corn, oyster, swine, muscovado, seaweeds, abaca, and mango commodities as identified during the series of stakeholders consultation and value chain analyses.
Following the release of the investment portfolio, Local Government Units (LGUs) across the region shall now propose subprojects for these commodities.
Priority Investments
For rice commodity, support is needed for Integrated Palay Clustering and Market Linkage Program, Postharvest Infrastructure and Price Stabilization Program, Irrigation Rehabilitation and Small-Scale Irrigation Development, Climate-Resilient Irrigation Development Program, Certified Seed Production and Accreditation Program, and Local Input Supply and Organic Fertilizer Development Program.
For corn commodity, support is needed for Corn Post-Harvest Infrastructure Improvement, Corn Value Chain Integration and Market Access, Institutional Strengthening for Corn Industry Development, and Policy Support and Enabling Environment for Corn Competitiveness.
For oyster commodity, support is needed for Eco Friendly and Climate Resilient Aquaculture Farming Technologies for Oyster, Clean and Safe Oysters Through Better Post-Harvest Facilities, Oyster Production and Supply Enhancement, Safe Shells: Institutionalizing Food Safety, Seasonality Management, and Value Chain Upgrading in the Oyster Sector, Coastal Water Quality and Production Management, and Siltation Control and Watershed Rehabilitation.
For swine commodity, support is needed for Feed Security and Innovation for the Swine Industry, Provincial Mainstreaming of Biosecurity and Animal Health for the Swine Industry, Clustered Hog Production and Consolidation System, and Contract Growing and Market Linkage Development.
For muscovado commodity, support is needed for Project TAMIS (Technology-Assisted Muscovado Industry Strengthening), Water Access and Climate Resilience for Muscovado Cane Production, Input Assistance and Mechanization Support for Muscovado Farmers, Sustainable and Low-Cost Input Alternatives in Muscovado Farming Promotion.
For seaweeds commodity, support is needed for Strengthening Seedling Supply through Tissue Culture and Nursery Systems, Cultivar Diversification and Genetic Resource Conservation, Seaweed Health Protection and Biosecurity Program, Seaweed Disease Mitigation and Environmental Management Support, Seaweed Post-Harvest Infrastructure Development, and Seaweed Quality Standards and Capacity Enhancement.
For abaca commodity, support is needed for Abaca Farm Expansion and Production Support Project, Abaca Capacity Building and Technology Enhancement Project, Abaca Post-Harvest Improvement and Logistics Support Project, Abaca Enterprise Development and Processing Facility Project, Cluster-Level Consolidation and Trading Facility Project, and Provincial/Cluster Grading and Baling Establishment Project.
For mango commodity, support is needed for Strengthening Farm-Level Productivity and GAP Compliance, Enhancing Mango Processing Capacity and Market Absorption, On-Farm Water Infrastructure for Mango Production, and Water Governance and Capacity Development for Mango Clusters.
Proposals are targeted to close by the end of 2026 to give way for the implementation of the subprojects until 2028.###
