Amidst the controversies on the infrastructure projects, the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project Scale-Up (DA-PRDP) conducted a five-day training on Integrated Approach to Agricultural Infrastructure Development to address present and future challenges among IBUILD component subprojects in Western Visayas.

Engr. Moises D. Manaay, Deputy Project Director of RPCO 6 emphasized that participants will be able to establish a holistic understanding of the project life cycle; develop technical competence in site assessment, structural design, and geotechnical considerations.

“The strengthening of practical skills in modern engineering and project management as well as enhancing the capabilities in risk management, quality assurance, and contract administration are necessary to foster structural integrity, safety and durable infrastructure.” Added Engr. Manaay.

The multidisciplinary decision-making and collaboration with the implementing project-partners are observed as one of the best practices in PRDP funded subprojects.

The participants also learned about environmental and Site Suitability in Agri-Infrastructure, Seismic and Wind Load Considerations in Structural Design, Conceptualization of Structural Systems with Seismic Considerations which are very important especially that we are experiencing earthquakes nowadays.

Other topics discussed were Structural Analysis and Design of an Industrial Warehouse, Digital Tools for Structural Design, Soil Stabilization using Agricultural By-Products, Planning, Scheduling and Resource Utilization, Managing Risks and Controlling Costs Risk Management and Cost Control, and QA/QC and Contractual Closeout Essentials necessary in putting up infrastructures that would further enhance the dynamics in modern agriculture.

Interactive workshops were conducted to supplement the series of discussions and to institute collaboration across DA programs.###
