To deepen the understanding and integration of gender equality and social inclusion in government programs, members of the Department of Agriculture Western Visayas (DA-WV) Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System participated in a Training-Workshop on the Basic Concepts of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) held on October 20-23, 2025, via a hybrid online format. The activity was conducted together with the GAD GFPS of DA Regional Field Offices 7 and 8.

The four-day learning event provided participants with an in-depth understanding of the emerging concepts of GESI, emphasizing the importance of empowering Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Senior Citizens, Indigenous Peoples (IPs), and the Youth Resource persons discussed the legal foundations and policy frameworks that uphold gender equality and protect the rights of these vulnerable and marginalized sectors

A highlight of the training was the session of the legal basis of gender equality and social inclusion, which emphasized the need to mainstream sectoral concerns in government interventions and program implementation. Participants also learned about mechanisms that promote participatory decision-making, recognizing the vital roles of women and other underrepresented groups in agricultural development.

Each participating region engaged in hands-on workshops and group exercises aimed at crafting policies and program mechanisms that advance inclusivity and gender responsiveness. This initiative reflects the continuing commitment of DA-WV GFPS to strengthen institutional capacity for gender-responsive governance for agricultural growth and rural development.###
